Dwa:dasi special - avial:

The day after Vaikuntta E:ka:dasi is a very special Dwadhasi. DWadhasi thaligai (culinary) will necessarily include Avial which is a mixture of vegetable items. For example, the following vegtables may be used: (the recipe/quantity is intended for 4 or 5 people only)

broad beans (Avaraikka:i)
Cluster beans (Kothavarainga:i )
Beans
chayote (Chow chow)
Carrot
Potato
sweet potato (sarkkarai valli kilangu)
sEppangkizhangu (Colacasia, samagadda in telugu)
Pumpkin
Sweet Pumpkin
green peas

All the vegetables should be made into pieces. The pieces taken together can measure about a litre.This can be put in the pressure cooker and cooked. Then the following items can be ground in the mixie:-
Coconut 1 half of full coconut
green chilly 4 or 5 nos.
Cumin seeds (seeragam) 1/2 teaspoon
After grinding these items, they can be added to the cooked vegetables and mixed well.We have to wait for the heat in the cooked vegetables to subside. Thereafter,following items to be added and mixed well.
Salt as may be required.
curd 1/2 litre

coconut oil 2 teaspoons
KarivEppilai (curry leaves)
