Poornams/Poli -Special item for Bhogi:

Poli preparation:(Bengal gram or kadalai paruppu poli or Senagapappu poornam)

Making of dough and poornam (sweet made of jaggery etc)

Dough
Requirements:

Maida flour/ all purpose flour
 1/2 litre
salt
1/4 teapoon
refined oil
3 0r 4 tablespoons
turmeric powder
1/4 teaspoon

Add to maida flour salt, turmeric powder and little water and knead it well. At this stage add refined oil and again knead it to make it flexible, semi solid dough.

In the meantime keep ready the Bengal gram dhall or kadalai paruppu baked well in the pressure cooker or pressure pan.  Add coconut and jaggery granules to -the baked kadalai paruppu (Bengal Gram Dhall) and blend it in the mixy.


Requirements for Poornam

Bengalgram Dhall
200ml
Coconut
1no. (1/2 portion)
Jaggery
250 gms.

Take out the blended product.Add a little cardamom powder and ghee.Put it in the oven and stir it well till we get a solid poornam.

A small lemon size balls of poornams to be prepared.  The quantity of dough for each poornam should be half the size of the poornam ball.  Then flatten the dough and put a poornam in it and close it properly.  Again it should be flattened and each such flattened  poli can be baked on the Tawa using ghee and the process here is similar to making chapathi.
