Nachiyar Sri Andal (Goda Devi) and Svami Alavandar (Sri Yamunacharya)
avatara Thirunakshatra Mahotsavam Reported By: Sri Na:ra:yanan, Virginia, USA In Srivaishnavam all the months and stars have importance, for there are 10 Azvars, Andal, Madhurakavi azvar and numerous acharyas have blessed them by appearing in this world in that particular month or star. In the month of Aadi the holy town of Srivillipuththur and the holy town of Kattumannarkoil come to full life and vibrance. For it is time to celebrate birthdays of Andal (Goda Devi) and Svami Yamunacharya. Sri Goda Devi was born out of earth in the Thulasi garden of Sri: Periya:zhwa:r in Sri: Villipuththu:r, in the 98th year of Kaliyuga i.e. Nala year, A:sha:da month, Sukla Chathurthhi, Tuesday, Thula lagnam in the afternoon. She was fostered by Sri: Periya:zhwa:r couple with utmost love and affection. She graced two great prabandhams “Thiruppa:vai” and “Na:chchiya:r Thirumo:zhi” out of separation from the Lord. Sri Goda Devi is avatar (incarnation) of Sri Bhoo Devi, one of the three consorts of all supreme Lord Sriman Narayana. Her birth month is Tamil month “Aadi” and Star “pooram”. In srivaishnava world this particular day is called “Thiru-Aadi-Pooram” signifying the incarnation of Sri Goda Devi adding Thiru to the month and star. Svami Yamunacharya was the grand son of Svami Nathamuni and Svami Ramanuja was his ekalavya sishya. He appeared in this world in month of Aadi and the star Uthradam in the dhivya desam of Kattumannarkoil. He is like a beautiful jewel in the necklace of Guruparampara. He has blessed us with stotrams like Chatusloki and Stotra Ratnam, many sampradayic granthams like Gita:rta sangraham, maha purusha nirnayam, mayavada kandanam, sidhitram aagama pramanyam and many more. While some of them are lost many of his works are still with us thus illuminating the sampradayam. He stayed in the epi center of our Srivaishnava Sampradayam, the bhoolokha vaikundam Srirangam.
