Sri Chinna Jeeyar Swami Thirunakshatra Mahotsavam
JEEYAR PURASKAR
The Ve:dic Sages say “Ve:da Sabde:bhya e:va:dow de:va:di:na:m chaka:ra Saha”. Ve:dic intonations are given to the disciples only orally and these
intonations are considered to be of prime importance for Vedic Recital. A Vedic
Scholar is a person who has mastered a particular branch of Vedas and has been
instrumental in imbibing such knowledge to the disciples. Such a scholar should be
encouraged in every way possible as they are instrumental in the protection of Vedas.
We have today only about 11 of the 1131 branches of the Vedas. The remaining have
been lost due to lack of patronage, invasion of our country by foreigners, etc.
To encourage these traditional Vedic Scholars His Holiness Sri Chinna Jeeyar Swamiji
has instituted JEEYAR PURASKAR. It is given to an erudite Vedic Scholar, who has
been spending his energies to preserve, propagate and practice the Vedic tradition.
The Prestigious award of Rs. 50,000/- along with a citation is awarded to such a
Vedic Scholar on the occasion of the Thirunakshatra Mahotsavam of His Holiness Sri
Chinna Jeeyar Swami Varu every year. So far 11 Vedic Pandits have been honoured.
