(12) Swa:mi Thirumangai Azhwa:r--This a:zhwa:r was born in the 207th year of Kaliyuga i.e. Nala year, Ka:rthika month, Sukla paksha Pu:rnima, Thursday, in Kruthika star in a village called “Tirukkuraiyalu:r” where river Cauvery unithes with the ocean. He loved a beautiful lady “Kumudavalli” and started serving food to thousand Sri: Vaishnava devotees as per her wish. For that, he even started thievery. Once Lord Sri:manna:ra:yana and Sri: came as a newly married couple and the a:zhwa:r tried to rob their divine ornaments also. With the association of the Lord, he acquired divine knowledge and also received Thirumanthram directly from the Lord. From then, this a:zhwa:r was always involved in the service of the Lord, a:zhwa:rs and devotees. He graced various divine works such as (1) Periya Thirumo:zhi (2) Thirukkurunda:ndakam (3) Thirunedunda:ndakam (4) Periya Tirumadal (5) Siriya Thirumadal (6) Tiruvezhukkuththirukkai etc. The divine works graced by this a:zhwa:r are renowned as the Shadangas of the Dravida Vedas graced by Sri: Namma:zhwa:r. |
